i’ve seen this pic go all around up and down the internet with all different attributions! it’s a joke. it’s fanart. it’s a diss piece. it’s by me.
HERE’S THE TRUTH: this was drawn specifically for me by Aaron Ancheta, junior assistant on vol 6. Date: AUGUST 2009. This was a few months before he actually became my assistant. I drew some of his characters (voila) and asked for a pic of “scott pilgrim punching someone’s head off in a geyser of blood” in exchange.
Aaron added the video game reference on his own steam and also drew ‘me’ as the guy having his head punched off. Aaron doesn’t hate me. It’s a joke.
The guy isn’t Gideon. This was 2009. The last book wasn’t out yet. Aaron helped draw the last book. Nobody knew what Gideon looked like yet.
I posted it on flickr and the scott pilgrim forum and then it escaped into the wild where it continues to confuse people to this day.

When I first read that Adventure Time was a post-apocalyptic world they were living in, suddenly everything made SO MUCH MORE SENSE, like, where did all the timely pop culture references come from in this bizarre world? I knew I should be like, whatever, it’s a silly show that’s basically all the fun parts of the internet rolled up into one adorable show, let it go! But being in a post-apocalyptic world, one that allows for some THINGS to awake or change the planet, but still remnants of the culture remained? Yeah, I got my head around it a lot better.
(Still. It’s a show with a magical talking, stretching dog. I realize this, too.)
